Lahore Basant 2027 plan outlines kite flying and manufacturing rules
Punjab Cabinet to Decide Basant Dates
Lahore’s deputy commissioner has submitted the proposed dates for the festival, according to sources. The plan will take effect only after approval by the Punjab Cabinet.
The proposed three-day festival would run from March 12 to 14, 2027. The final dates and arrangements may depend on the provincial government’s decision.
Kite Sales and Transport to Begin in February
Under the proposal, people would be allowed to purchase, transport and store kites and kite strings from February 1, 2027. Sales to the public would begin on February 10.
These dates are part of a planned schedule to manage activities before the festival. The arrangements would set out when kite-related items could be handled and sold.
Kite Manufacturing Allowed Until March 14
The proposal allows kite and kite-string manufacturing to continue until March 14, 2027. This date would coincide with the final day of the proposed Basant celebrations.
The schedule is intended to organise kite production and supply ahead of the festival. However, the proposed arrangements still require approval from the Punjab Cabinet.
Kite Flying Restricted in Prohibited Areas
The proposal suggests allowing kite flying across Lahore district, except in areas where it is prohibited. Only permitted materials would be allowed for kites and kite strings.
The proposed rules aim to set clear limits on festival activities across the city. Residents and businesses will need to follow the final rules approved by the provincial government.
The proposal gives Lahore a possible timetable for Basant 2027 and sets out when kite-related activities could begin. However, the dates and arrangements are not final until the Punjab Cabinet approves them.
