Karachi (Web Desk): Police have arrested a man described as a “wealthy beggar” in Gulshan-e-Iqbal after recovering a huge amount of cash from his belongings.

The suspect, identified as Akbar, was found carrying notes ranging from Rs10 to Rs5,000, including an entire shopping bag filled with Rs10 notes. Officers were astonished by the amount of cash and called extra staff to assist in counting it.

Police confirmed that Akbar is originally from Bahawalpur and had been begging in multiple Karachi areas, including Gulshan-e-Memar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, and Nazimabad. A case has been registered against him.

Meanwhile, during Ramazan, Islamabad’s district administration has intensified its anti-begging drive. In the last 24 hours, 42 beggars were taken into custody at major roads, markets, and traffic points. Surveillance systems supported the operations to monitor and control professional begging in busy areas.

Officials said the special drive will continue throughout Ramazan to address the growing presence of beggars at public places.
