(Web Desk): Islamabad Traffic Police has introduced a fully digital, paperless and cashless driving licence system to make services faster and more convenient.

In a major step towards digital governance, Islamabad Traffic Police has introduced a fully paperless and cashless driving licence system, making the application process easier, faster and more transparent for residents of the federal capital.

The initiative has been launched on the special directives of the federal interior minister and aims to modernise public services through the use of advanced technology. Officials say the new system will reduce paperwork, improve efficiency and provide greater convenience to citizens seeking driving licences.

According to Islamabad Police, the digital transformation has been implemented under the leadership of Inspector General Islamabad and Chief Traffic Police Officer Muhammad Sarfraz Virk. The move is part of broader efforts to shift government services onto modern digital platforms.

Under the new procedure, applicants will no longer be required to bring additional documents or photocopies when applying for a driving licence. Citizens can now complete the process by presenting only their original Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC).

Authorities have also digitised the fee payment system. Applicants can pay licence fees on the spot using banking applications, mobile wallets and other electronic payment methods, eliminating the need for cash transactions.

Officials believe the new system will help minimise opportunities for corruption, increase transparency and save valuable time and resources for the public. The paperless process is also expected to improve record management and reduce administrative delays.

This is not the first digital reform introduced by Islamabad Traffic Police. The department had previously shifted traffic fine payments to a cashless system, a move that was widely welcomed by citizens.

The latest initiative is being seen as another significant milestone in Pakistan’s push towards e-governance and technology-driven public service delivery.
