The federal government has started a new transport subsidy through digital wallets system to provide financial relief to Pakistan’s transport sector.
The move is aimed at making subsidy payments faster, more transparent and easier to track. Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja confirmed that the payments have already started through verified digital wallets.
Under the new plan, the transport subsidy through digital wallets will be given to trucks, buses and other heavy transport vehicles.
Officials said the transport data was collected from provincial excise departments and then shared with the State Bank of Pakistan to support the rollout of the system. The digital wallet system will now serve as the main payment channel for this subsidy.
According to the report, public service buses will receive Rs100,000 per month, while cargo trucks and goods transport vehicles will get between Rs70,000 and Rs80,000 per month.
The government said this support is meant to help control transport fares and reduce the burden of rising fuel costs on transporters.

The subsidy plan is not limited to the provinces only. It will also cover Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, while motorcyclists and farmers are expected to receive separate support through provincial governments.
The transport subsidy through digital wallets is being seen as a major step toward digital governance and targeted public relief in Pakistan.
