The federal government has presented a plan to increase prices of imported petroleum products and RLNG in light of concerns over possible disruptions related to the Strait of Hormuz.
According to official sources, the proposed strategy includes holding government meetings virtually and increasing the number of public holidays in the first phase, similar to measures adopted during the Covid-19 pandemic. Authorities said the approach is part of a broader multi-phase framework designed to manage emerging economic and energy challenges.
Officials confirmed that the government has prepared a strategy consisting of three phases, along with nearly three to four dozen proposals. These recommendations are expected to be presented to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for final approval. Once approved, implementation of the measures will begin immediately.

In the first phase, the government plans to implement these steps within the public sector. The second phase will introduce online assignments and digital systems in private schools, universities, and hospitals. Authorities also indicated that weekly adjustments in petroleum product prices are part of the proposed plan.
A meeting of the committee formed by the prime minister to monitor petroleum prices was held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb at the Finance Division. The meeting reviewed the current energy situation and discussed possible policy responses to rising global uncertainty.
Officials said the measures aim to ensure economic stability and manage supply risks amid escalating regional tensions.
