Islamabad (Web Desk): The federal government has decided to cancel the Pakistan Day parade scheduled for March 23 due to the ongoing oil crisis and strict austerity measures.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, all major ceremonies linked to the parade have also been called off.

The government said the decision was taken because of the worsening fuel situation caused by tensions in the Middle East, which disrupted global oil supply routes.

Reports suggest that the crisis intensified after the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, affecting petroleum supplies in the region.

To manage the situation, the government has already introduced several austerity steps, including a four-day work week and a work from home policy.

Despite the cancellation of the parade, the government said Pakistan Day will still be observed with dignity and respect.

Instead of large events, simple flag-hoisting ceremonies will be held across the country to mark the occasion.

Officials have been directed to ensure that the message and importance of Pakistan Day remain strong even with limited celebrations.

Pakistan Day is observed every year on March 23 to remember the historic Lahore Resolution of 1940.

Traditionally, the day is marked with a grand military parade in Islamabad attended by top political and military leadership.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also directed authorities to improve petroleum supply management and stay ready for emergency measures.

The government has started daily monitoring of petroleum reserves to keep track of the energy situation.

Officials informed that Pakistan currently has crude oil reserves for about 11 days, diesel for 21 days, and petrol for 27 days.

LPG reserves are sufficient for around nine days, while jet fuel stocks can last for about 14 days.

Authorities say these steps are necessary to ensure stability during the ongoing energy crisis.
