Fuel relief scheme faces dealer concerns
The Petroleum Division has summoned petroleum dealers for a meeting in Islamabad today to discuss their concerns about the payment mechanism under the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme. The meeting is scheduled for 4pm and will be chaired by the petroleum minister.
The main focus will be the reimbursement process for dealers providing subsidised fuel to eligible consumers. Dealers have raised concerns over how and when they will receive the subsidy amount, with industry representatives seeking greater clarity on the mechanism.
Dealers seek payment clarity
Representatives of petroleum dealers and petrol pump owners will attend the meeting along with officials from relevant government institutions. The discussions are expected to cover the procedure for processing payments and resolving issues that could affect the implementation of the relief scheme.
According to recent reports, dealers have expressed concern about bearing the subsidy cost if reimbursements are delayed. The government has said payments to fuel stations should be settled within 24 hours through the State Bank of Pakistan.
Scheme rollout continues
The Fuel Relief Scheme was launched nationwide after an initial pilot in Islamabad. It provides targeted relief to motorcycles, three-wheelers and vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc.
Eligible consumers receive a subsidy of Rs100 per litre, while the government has allocated Rs75 billion for the scheme. The meeting is expected to address dealer concerns and help ensure smoother implementation of the subsidy programme.
