FBR sets new targets to speed up trader tax registration
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has set targets for its field offices to speed up the registration of traders under the Tajir Dost Asaan Tax Scheme. The initiative aims to bring more small businesses and shopkeepers into the formal tax system.
According to sources, field offices in major cities have been assigned responsibility for registering traders. The offices will establish registration centres to facilitate enrolment and help traders complete the required procedures.
Registration targets and progress
Sources in the Finance Ministry said trader tax returns filed under the scheme have remained below expectations. As a result, FBR field formations have been tasked with increasing registration and improving compliance among eligible businesses.
Around 200 traders have so far filed tax returns under the Asaan Tax Scheme, according to the provided information. Meanwhile, approximately 5,000 traders have obtained registration through the scheme’s mobile application.
Relief for late registration
Sources said small traders may continue to receive relief if they register after September 30. The measure is intended to encourage more shopkeepers to join the tax system without facing immediate difficulties over the registration deadline.
The Tajir Dost Asaan Tax Scheme is designed to simplify tax registration and filing for small businesses. The government aims to expand the tax base by bringing more retailers and shopkeepers into the formal economy.
