ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): Electricity prices in Pakistan have increased by Rs1.11 per unit, adding Rs19 billion to consumers’ bills.

Electricity prices increase

The latest electricity prices Pakistan increase has been announced by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for consumers across the country, including Karachi.

The NEPRA electricity tariff has been raised under the August fuel price adjustment and will apply for one month.

The electricity price increase will be reflected in consumers’ October bills.

According to the notification, the increase is Rs1.11 per unit.

Rs19 billion burden

The decision is expected to create an additional Rs19 billion burden on electricity consumers across Pakistan.

The latest fuel price adjustment has been used to determine the increase in electricity rates.

The electricity prices Pakistan increase will not apply to lifeline consumers, providing some relief to low-consumption households.

The revised NEPRA electricity tariff comes at a time when many consumers are already facing high monthly electricity bills.

Power crisis worsens

The electricity price increase comes as Pakistan is also dealing with a growing power shortage.

Sources in the National Transmission and Despatch Company said the overall electricity shortfall had crossed 4,000 megawatts.

Several power plants have reportedly gone offline, while lower hydropower generation has also affected the national supply.

The fuel price adjustment has added to the pressure on consumers as the power supply situation remains difficult in several areas.

Load shedding increases

The power shortfall has also increased load shedding in cities and rural areas.

In Lahore, electricity demand reached around 4,000 megawatts while supply remained close to 3,000 megawatts.

The supply gap has resulted in three to four hours of load shedding in several areas.

The latest electricity prices Pakistan decision means consumers will face higher bills at a time when many households are already dealing with regular power cuts.

What consumers should know

The new NEPRA electricity tariff will be collected through October bills.

The Rs1.11 per unit increase is linked to the August fuel price adjustment and will apply for one month.

The Rs19 billion burden will be spread across eligible consumers, while lifeline consumers will remain exempt.

The latest electricity price increase is therefore expected to affect household budgets across the country.
