Authorities have decided to release salaries and pensions earlier than usual so that public sector employees and retired workers can prepare for the upcoming festival without financial stress. The move is expected to provide timely relief to thousands of families.
According to an official notification issued in Punjab, the governor approved the early disbursement of pay, allowances, and pensions for March. The document states: “Governor of the Punjab is pleased to approve disbursement of pay and allowances and pension for March 2026, in advance on 16th March 2026 on account of Eid-al-Fitr to government employees and pensioners belonging to the Muslim community, in terms of Rules 5 1 (1)1 and 5 2 (3), respectively, of the Punjab Financial Rules Volume-I.”
Officials explained that the decision was taken to ensure that employees and pensioners have access to funds before the Eid festival. This will allow families to make necessary preparations, including shopping for clothes, food, and gifts.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the provincial Finance Department also confirmed that full salaries and pensions for March will be released earlier. Employees and retirees will receive their payments on 16 March instead of the usual payment date of 1 April.

Similarly, the Punjab government has also decided to release salaries and pensions on the same date. According to the provincial Finance Department, all Muslim government employees and pensioners will receive their payments on 16 March to help them manage Eid-related expenses.
Officials say the early payment will help both working employees and retired citizens celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with greater ease. The advance funds are expected to support household spending, family gatherings, and traditional festivities during the holiday period.
Early payments are often announced before major festivals to support families. Eid brings extra expenses for many households. Getting salaries and pensions earlier can help people plan their spending and celebrate the occasion with less financial pressure.
