Citizens allowed to pay passport, immigration fees through app

The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports is working on a modern digital payment system that will allow citizens to pay passport and immigration fees directly through a mobile application. The initiative is being developed in collaboration with a private bank as part of ongoing efforts to modernise public services and promote cashless transactions across the country.

According to reports, a delegation from the private bank met with Director General of Immigration and Passports Muhammad Ali Randhawa to discuss the implementation of the new payment system. During the meeting, both sides reviewed plans to introduce a state-of-the-art digital platform that would make fee payments easier, faster and more convenient for citizens.

Under the proposed system, applicants will no longer need to rely on traditional payment methods. Instead, they will be able to complete transactions through a mobile application from anywhere in the country.

Officials said the private bank has already begun developing the required infrastructure to support the cashless payment model. Speaking at the meeting, DG Muhammad Ali Randhawa said that promoting digital payments would improve service delivery, enhance transparency and reduce delays in processing applications.

Representatives of the bank and immigration authorities also agreed on a final mechanism for the rollout of the digital system, which is expected to support the government’s broader vision of a cashless Pakistan. The move is likely to benefit thousands of citizens by making passport and immigration-related payments more accessible, efficient and user-friendly.
