(Web Desk): Punjab’s “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” housing scheme earns global praise as a model for interest-free affordable housing.

Punjab’s flagship “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” housing programme has gained significant international attention, with several countries and a World Bank mission expressing interest in the initiative.

The programme has been recognised as one of the largest interest-free housing finance models in the developing world. International experts have described it as a replicable framework for low-cost and social housing finance, especially for developing nations seeking sustainable urban development solutions.

According to officials, the scheme has positioned Punjab as a leading example in affordable housing finance at the global level. Experts believe the model could serve as a benchmark for other countries facing housing shortages and financial constraints in the urban housing sector.

A spokesperson for the Housing Department said that the programme has incorporated best practices from successful international housing models. They added that Punjab’s modern housing policies received strong appreciation at the World Urban Forum held in Baku, where the provincial delegation showcased its initiatives.

During the forum, the Pakistani pavilion played a key role in establishing contacts with international organisations, development partners and foreign governments. These engagements are expected to strengthen future cooperation in the housing and urban development sectors.

Officials further stated that growing global interest reflects increasing confidence in Pakistan’s approach to social housing reform. They added that the programme aims to provide affordable housing solutions to low-income families while ensuring transparent and sustainable financing mechanisms.

The initiative is being seen as a major step toward addressing housing challenges in the region, with experts suggesting it could help reshape policy frameworks in similar economies worldwide.

Further international collaboration and technical partnerships are expected as the programme continues to expand.
