According to the notification issued, this new fare will be effective from June 1, 2025. Now the one-way fare of Orange Line, Green Line, Blue Line Metro and Electric Bus services has been increased from Rs50 to Rs100, while the same fare will be charged for stop-to-stop travel. It should be remembered that these buses provide travel facilities to more than 90,000 passengers on a daily basis on 17 different routes in Islamabad.
Citizens say that inflation has already made life difficult, now the government has also taken away the convenience of travel from their reach. Especially those who rely on the metro and electric buses daily, they will now have to make significant changes in their monthly budget.

Passengers have complained that it is unfair for the government to impose an additional burden on the public by removing subsidies. Several employees have expressed strong reservations over the decision, saying that unless the minimum salary of Rs37,000 per month is paid as per the prescribed standard, such decisions will create more hardship for the poor.
According to the concerned authorities, the decision to increase the fares was taken keeping in mind the increasing operational costs of the bus service, the increase in the prices of petroleum products and other economic factors.
However, this decision has caused great concern among the poor and middle class.
