
The chief minister gave the approval for the project during a meeting held at the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) headquarters. The LDA has started work on the project, official sources say.
The tram route will consist of 10 stations including Main Boulevard and Kalma Chowk. The complete tram route will be 11 km long, with a stop after every 1 to 1.5 km.
MM Alam Road will be made a one-way road. The chief minister approved the remodeling and beautification of MM Alam Road.
According to the LDA chief engineer, modern models from Finland and China are being studied for the design of trams which may cost Rs27 billion.
The tram will be given a special stopover inside Gaddafi Stadium. It will operate in Liberty Market, Mini Market, and Hali Road areas of the provincial capital.
The government is likely to soon announce the launch date of the project. The administration will also announce the ticket price for the Lahore tram service after the project is launched.
