200 unit electricity bill in Pakistan: Govt responds to subsidy reports

Islamabad: Electricity subsidy ending claim on 200 units users has been clarified by the Ministry of Energy. The ministry has responded to reports about possible changes in subsidy policy.

According to sources, officials in distribution companies are reviewing cases of users with multiple meters or solar systems in one house. In some cases, there are concerns about possible misuse of subsidy benefits.

Sources also said QR code systems are being used only to verify consumer data. Users consuming up to 200 units are currently getting relief of around Rs5,000 per month.

If subsidy is removed, electricity bills that are currently around Rs2,000 could rise to nearly Rs7,000. This has created confusion and concern among consumers.

However, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Energy rejected these reports. He clearly stated that there is no proposal under consideration to end the subsidy for 200-unit consumers.

He also said that there is no plan to stop subsidy for homes with more than one meter. The QR code on electricity bills is only meant to show monthly subsidy details to users.

The spokesperson added that if different family members live in separate portions of a house, their subsidy will not be cancelled. No decision has been taken to change this facility.

The Ministry of Energy further clarified that the government has no intention to end the subsidy for 200-unit users at present. The aim is to continue providing relief to consumers.

Officials said the government’s focus is to make electricity services easier and more beneficial for the public. They assured that this subsidy support will continue without interruption.
