(Web Desk): Peshawar moves closer to becoming New York’s sister city, promising educational, cultural, and economic opportunities.

The process to establish Peshawar and New York as sister cities has advanced after the New York City Mayor’s Office sent a draft agreement to the Governor House in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi welcomed the development, describing the proposed partnership as a positive step toward international cooperation. He emphasized that the initiative is aimed at strengthening people-to-people ties between Pakistan and the United States, while enhancing opportunities for the residents of Peshawar.

According to the draft agreement, Peshawar and New York would collaborate in multiple sectors, including education, economic development, youth skills training, science and technology, cultural exchange, and official visits. The sister city arrangement is expected to facilitate joint initiatives that promote knowledge sharing and economic growth.

Governor Kundi highlighted that the partnership could help improve Peshawar’s international image and create new educational, technical, and employment opportunities for young people. He also noted that fostering ties with global cities and modern economic sectors could accelerate regional development and innovation in Peshawar.

Officials said that the agreement is still under review, and final approval will require formal procedures on both sides. Once formalized, the sister city status could pave the way for exchanges, collaborations, and investment opportunities, benefiting local communities and strengthening the bond between Pakistan and the United States.

The governor expressed hope that the agreement would serve as a model for other Pakistani cities seeking international cooperation and global partnerships.
