(Web Desk): Balochistan launches People’s Train Service from Quetta to Kuchlak, marking a historic step in railway devolution.

The Balochistan government has announced the launch of the People’s Train Service between Quetta and Kuchlak, with Rs1.4 billion set to be released soon to kickstart the project.

Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti unveiled the plan during a meeting with Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi at the Chief Minister Secretariat. The meeting confirmed strong coordination between the federal and provincial governments to improve railway services in the province.

Officials said an agreement in principle has been reached between Pakistan Railways and the Balochistan government to jointly develop railway projects. The People’s Train Service has been identified as the top priority under this collaboration.

The initiative aims to provide affordable, safe, and reliable transportation for daily commuters while strengthening regional connectivity. Authorities believe the service will significantly ease travel for residents who rely on limited public transport options.

Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi described the move as historic, noting that this is the first time in the 78-year history of Pakistan Railways that a provincial-level decision on rail devolution has been taken. He said the step reflects growing trust and cooperation between the center and provinces.

CM Bugti said the provincial government will fully fund the construction of new railway stations and the upgrading of existing infrastructure along the route. He added that once the Quetta–Kuchlak service proves successful, it will be expanded to Mastung, Pishin, and other parts of Balochistan.

The People’s Train Service is expected to improve public transport, boost local trade, create jobs, and set a new benchmark for railway development in the province.
