The federal government has announced strict new motorway safety rules after taking serious notice of a fatal accident on the M-9 Motorway, aiming to prevent further loss of life and improve road safety across Pakistan.
Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan ordered an immediate inquiry into the tragic incident and directed the Inspector General of Motorway Police to submit a detailed investigation report at the earliest.
Worn-Out Tyres Banned on Motorways
In a major decision, the minister ordered that no vehicle with weak, expired, or worn-out tyres will be allowed to enter motorways. Authorities have been instructed to conduct mandatory vehicle fitness inspections, with a special focus on tyre condition before granting access to national highways and motorways.
Officials have been told to ensure that every vehicle meets prescribed safety standards, regardless of whether it is commercial transport or a private car.

Private Vehicles Also Under Scrutiny
While commercial transport has traditionally faced stricter inspections, Abdul Aleem Khan emphasized that private vehicles will now also be thoroughly checked. He made it clear that negligence in vehicle fitness would no longer be tolerated, warning officials of strict accountability.
“This accident highlights the urgent need for enforcement of safety rules,” the minister said, stressing that preventive measures are the only way to reduce motorway fatalities.
Condolences for Victims
The federal minister expressed deep sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the M-9 motorway crash. He extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for patience and strength for those affected by the tragedy.
Move Aimed at Preventing Future Accidents
The new rules are part of broader efforts to strengthen motorway safety, reduce road accidents, and ensure that unsafe vehicles are kept off Pakistan’s highways. Motorway Police have been directed to strictly enforce inspections without exception.
