The petition was filed by PTI lawyer Latif Khosa in the Toshakhana criminal case under Rule 35(6) of the Supreme Court Rules, 2025. It followed a health report prepared by Barrister Salman Safdar on the court’s instructions.
PTI has asked the court to immediately move Imran to Shifa International Hospital so that a retina specialist can examine and treat his eye condition. The petition also requested that his personal doctors, Dr. Faisal Sultan and Dr. Asim Yousaf, be allowed to examine him independently.
“The petitioner be immediately shifted to Shifa International Hospital, Islamabad, for proper treatment of his eyes from a retina specialist and permit access of his personal physician Dr. Faisal Sultan and Dr. Asim Yousaf,” the petition stated.

Imran, 73, has been described in the petition as being in declining health. PTI says his worsening eyesight is a serious concern for his family and supporters. The party claims he has repeatedly requested access to his personal doctors for an independent medical examination.
The petition further requested that his family be informed about his medical treatment and allowed to remain present during examinations. It also demanded that his lawyers receive certified copies of all medical reports and be granted regular access to ensure effective legal representation.
PTI has stepped up its demands for his release after a medical report submitted to the court claimed that vision in his right eye had fallen to 15%. However, government officials insist that he is receiving proper medical care in jail.
Recently, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Senate opposition leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas were briefed about Imran’s health at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences. According to officials, his personal doctors, including Dr. Asim Yousaf and Dr. Khurram Mirza, were informed and expressed satisfaction with the treatment being provided.

Last week, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said Imran’s vision was normal at 6/6 in one eye, while the other eye had around 70% vision with glasses. He stated that a team of specialists was satisfied with his medical care and had briefed opposition leaders as well as his doctors.
As per sources, Imran’s right-eye vision improved from 6/36 to 6/9, while his left eye measured 6/6 with glasses. The medical board that examined him at Adiala Jail included Dr. Nadeem Qureshi and Dr. Arif.
The situation has now turned into both a legal and political issue. PTI says his health is at serious risk and is demanding urgent action. The government says there is no emergency and that proper treatment is already.
