Former prime minister and Awam Pakistan Party chief Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has openly spoken in support of PTI founder Imran Khan. He raised concerns about restrictions on jail meetings and criticised the government’s handling of law and order.
Speaking at a press conference in Murree alongside local leaders of other political parties, Shahid Khaqan said the government must respect women and the rule of law. He warned that lawlessness is rising not only in Murree but across the country, and the sanctity of homes and privacy is being violated.
He said the area would not be turned into a police state. He accused the police of violating the sanctity of homes in Murree and said court orders were not being followed. Shahid Khaqan stressed that Imran Khan is a former prime minister and jail meetings are his legal right.
Criticising the government further, he said the rulers see themselves as masters, not servants of the people. He added that during his time in office, no illegal constructions were allowed and no false cases were registered against anyone. He questioned where citizens should go if the government itself breaks the law.

The Awam Pakistan Party chief also said people are no longer getting justice in courts, which is increasing public frustration.
It is worth noting that a day earlier, JUI F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman had also criticised the government over restrictions on Imran Khan’s jail meetings. He said it is shameful in a democratic country to deny a prisoner meetings with family members and questioned why Imran Khan was arrested. He added that he does not support arrests of political leaders or bans on meetings.
Opposition voices are growing louder. Jail meeting restrictions are becoming a major issue. Government pressure is facing political pushback. The debate over law and rights is intensifying.
