LAHORE (Web Desk): Punjab government has delivered significant financial relief to thousands of working families, providing a major boost by increasing the wedding and death grants for the labour class.

The Punjab government has taken a major step for the welfare of the labour class by making a notable increase in the wedding and death grants. This initiative aims to provide better financial support to workers’ families during both happy occasions and times of sorrow.

The marriage grant, which is provided for the wedding of workers’ children, has been increased from Rs400,000 to Rs600,000—an addition of Rs200,000.

Similarly, the death grant has also been raised significantly, going from Rs800,000 to Rs1,000,000 (Rs1,000,000), which will provide immediate financial assistance to the families of deceased labourers. A government spokesperson stated that the aim is to provide practical and effective help to the hardworking class.

According to the Labour Department, these new, increased grants will apply to all eligible labourers who are registered under the provincial Labour Welfare System.

Special instructions have also been issued to ensure that these grants are disbursed in a timely manner. This move is expected to alleviate financial stress on low-income families during life’s most critical events.

This doubling down on social safety nets is a smart political and economic move. By focusing on critical life events like marriage and death, the government is providing concrete, tangible support that directly impacts the welfare of thousands of poor families, boosting their sense of financial security and stability during key transitions.
