LAHORE (Web Desk): Punjab government has announced a major initiative to restore, renovate, and beautify mosques across the province.

The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, where new security and peace measures were also finalized.

During the meeting — the seventh extraordinary session on law and order — the government decided to strictly enforce the “Loudspeaker Act” using CCTV and modern technology. Under this act, any individual spreading hatred or inciting violence through loudspeakers will face legal action.

Officials clarified that there is no ban on any religious party in Punjab except those involved in spreading extremism or hate. Religious organizations following the code of conduct can continue their activities freely, while those promoting peace and unity will receive full government support.

The provincial administration stated that anyone using loudspeakers for business, personal, or political purposes will be punished under the law. However, there is no restriction on using loudspeakers for Friday sermons or the five daily calls to prayer (Azan).

In another key move, the government decided to start mapping all mosques across Punjab to ensure fair distribution of stipends to over 65,000 Imams. CM Maryam Nawaz directed the officials to speed up this process to provide Imams with due respect and financial support. The initiative will also improve mosque facilities, drainage systems, and surrounding roads.

The Punjab government further announced a strong crackdown on hate speech, misinformation, and incitement on social media under the PECA Act. Special monitoring units have been activated to identify and act against those spreading hatred or false content online.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also praised citizens who voluntarily surrendered illegal weapons and warned that strict action will be taken against anyone still possessing or hiding them. The government also announced severe penalties for those helping foreigners living illegally in the province.

According to the official statement, “Punjab is a cradle of peace and will not be allowed to become a ground for chaos.”
