PTI boycotts Azad Kashmir elections over political crisis
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced that it will not participate in the upcoming Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections, citing the ongoing political situation and expressing solidarity with the people of the region.
In an official statement, the party said it had decided to boycott the electoral process under the current circumstances, arguing that resolving the existing crisis should take priority over holding elections.
PTI said it would not become part of an election process until the concerns of the Kashmiri people are addressed. The party also called on the authorities to accept the demands of the Joint Public Action Committee, stressing that the rights of the people should not become a political issue.
The party demanded a review of the election schedule and urged the government to ensure a level playing field for all political parties. It also called for an immediate end to actions against political workers, saying free, fair, and transparent elections are essential for a credible democratic process.
PTI's parliamentary board has suspended all recommendations for election tickets with immediate effect. The party also postponed every step related to the issuance of party tickets and election preparations until further notice.
The statement reaffirmed PTI's commitment to supporting the democratic rights of the people of Azad Kashmir. It added that the party would not launch an election campaign until the current crisis is resolved, maintaining that the problems faced by the people are more important than the election itself.
