ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): Pakistan Peoples Party has finalized Chaudhry Yasin’s name for the position of Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s new prime minister, ending weeks of political speculation.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has decided to nominate senior party leader Chaudhry Yasin as its candidate for the post of Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). The decision was approved by the party’s top leadership during a meeting chaired by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

According to sources, PPP’s AJK leadership also attended the meeting where Yasin’s name was officially endorsed. The final announcement of his candidacy is expected by tonight.

Party insiders revealed that four names were initially under consideration for the AJK premiership — Chaudhry Yasin, Latif Akbar, Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, and Sardar Yaqoob Khan. After detailed discussions, Bilawal Bhutto gave final approval to Chaudhry Yasin’s nomination.

Meanwhile, sources said that PPP has reached an understanding with AJK President Barrister Sultan Mahmood. The party has decided not to remove him from office, allowing him to continue as President until the completion of his constitutional term.

According to party sources, the Sultan Mahmood group has formally joined PPP. The group has five members in the AJK Legislative Assembly, though Barrister Sultan himself has not yet officially joined the party.

It was also confirmed that the AJK President’s son, Yasir Sultan, who is a member of the Legislative Assembly, has already joined PPP. There are reports that members of the Sultan group could soon be given positions in the AJK cabinet as part of the new political alignment.

The PPP’s decision to back Chaudhry Yasin marks a major shift in AJK politics, signaling the party’s intent to consolidate power ahead of future elections. By maintaining ties with President Barrister Sultan Mahmood and welcoming his group, PPP seems to be securing both political stability and broader influence in the region. The coming days will reveal how this alliance shapes the balance of power within Azad Kashmir’s political landscape.
