KARACHI (Web Desk): The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has refused to support several key clauses of the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment.

The PPP argued on the statement that it will not allow any changes that will affect the provincial financial share guaranteed under Article 160.

The party strongly opposed rolling back powers granted to provinces under Schedules 2 and 3, and rejected proposals to shift education and population subjects back to the federal list.

The party also rejected proposed amendments regarding the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner, as well as changes linked to dual citizenship rules.

Additionally, the PPP did not agree to restoring the executive magistrates’ powers.

However, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said the party supports amending Article 243, provided that civilian authority remains intact.

He also supported the establishment of a constitutional court and said that judges’ transfers must involve consultation between relevant chief justices.

PML-N is considering introducing a new designation, “Commander of Defence Forces,” under Article 243, and is also exploring changes related to the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award and dual citizenship regulations.

Bilawal emphasized that PPP will not accept any reduction in provincial financial shares. He said that provincial allocations may be increased but must not be decreased under constitutional protections.

He added that Sindh currently enjoys significant local government autonomy and urged movement on commitments outlined in the Charter of Democracy.

Bilawal also extended an invitation to JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman for consultations, as the JUI-F has also expressed concern over any move that may weaken provincial authority.
