The tragic incident occurred near a Kabaddi ground in Korangi No 03, where the 70-year-old man lost his life after falling into an open drain. Police and rescue officials said the man was pushing a loaded bicycle while heading home in the evening when he lost balance and fell into the drain, dying on the spot.
Family members said Kale Khan, son of Muhammad Aslam, had left home after offering Maghrib prayers. When he did not return and the area remained dark due to no street lights, his children started searching for him.
Later, CCTV footage of the incident surfaced on social media. The video shows the elderly man walking while holding his bicycle when he suddenly slipped and fell into the open drain. His children identified him through the bicycle and took the body away in an ambulance without any legal formalities.

Residents of the area said several drains and gutters remain uncovered, with no safety walls or barriers. They added that roads become deserted at night due to darkness, making accidents a routine matter.
Locals further claimed that during a recent visit by the chief minister, the drains were temporarily covered with curtains, but negligence returned soon after.
Reports show that deaths caused by open drains and manholes in Karachi have reached 24 this year, including children and women. These repeated tragedies have raised serious questions about the city’s administration.
