LAHORE (Web Desk): Saudi Arabia updates working hours and overtime rules for Pakistani workers, setting clear limits on daily work, rest periods, and extra pay.

The Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment (BEOE) has shared new details about working hours, rest breaks, and overtime payments for Pakistani workers employed in Saudi Arabia.

According to the bureau, normal working hours are limited to a maximum of eight hours per day or 48 hours per week.

Workers must be given proper rest during the working day, and employers are required to ensure a continuous daily rest period of at least 11 hours. The policy also guarantees one full day of rest every week, which must be provided after six consecutive working days.

The bureau said the weekly rest day is usually Friday. However, employers may assign another day off if work demands it, as long as proper compensation or adjustment is provided under labor laws. Any work done beyond eight hours a day will be treated as overtime. For such extra work, employees must be paid at least 1.5 times their regular hourly wage.

Officials said the update is meant to protect workers’ rights, promote a healthy work-life balance, and bring labor practices in line with Saudi regulations.
