LAHORE (Suno News): Another disappointing development has emerged for people hoping to secure government jobs in Punjab, as a major change in the salary system has been approved.

New government recruits in Punjab will now receive a lump sum salary instead of the traditional basic pay scale.

During the recent session of the Punjab Assembly, the Punjab Regularisation of Service (Repeal) Bill 2025 was passed with a majority vote. Under this bill, the Service Regularisation Act 2018 will be abolished.

According to the bill, the government has decided to shift all new public-sector hiring to a lump sum pay package. The proposal to end recruitment under the basic pay scale system has been approved to reduce the financial burden on the provincial treasury.

Government sources say pensions under the basic pay scale place a heavy load on the treasury. New legislation for a lump sum pay structure is expected soon, and new government appointments in Punjab will now follow this system.

Officials further added that allowances added to the basic pay scale have also increased financial pressure. The bill will take effect after final approval from the Governor of Punjab.

This decision changes how new government employees in Punjab will be paid. Many applicants are worried because the lump sum system may offer fewer long-term benefits. The government says it is needed to reduce financial pressure. The final impact will depend on the new laws that are still being prepared.
