Peshawar (Web Desk): K-P announces Rs2,000 fuel subsidy for bikers and rickshaw owners through a new scheme launched to ease the impact of rising petrol prices.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has introduced the Ehsaas Fuel Support Program to provide financial relief to motorcycle, scooter, and rickshaw owners affected by the sharp increase in petrol prices.

Under the scheme, eligible individuals will receive Rs2,000 as fuel assistance to help reduce the burden of rising transport costs.

The initiative was launched on the instructions of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi as part of the provincial government’s efforts to support low-income groups during the ongoing fuel and energy crisis.

Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Information and Public Relations, Shafi Jan, announced the program and said the financial aid will be given to thousands of transport users across the province.

According to officials, people can apply for the subsidy through the Dastak App. The digital system has been introduced to make the registration process simple and transparent.

Through the app, eligible motorcycle, scooter, and rickshaw owners can register themselves and receive financial assistance directly.

Shafi Jan said the program is designed to help ordinary citizens who rely on motorcycles and rickshaws for daily travel and income.

He added that supporting low-income groups remains a top priority of the provincial government, and more relief measures may be introduced if needed.

The announcement comes as fuel prices in Pakistan have increased sharply in recent weeks.

Petrol prices recently jumped by Rs137 per litre, pushing the rate to around Rs458.4 per litre, marking one of the highest levels in the country’s history.

Earlier last month, petrol and diesel prices had already increased by Rs55 per litre. Overall, petrol prices have risen by about 63 percent in one month, while high-speed diesel prices have increased by about 75 percent.

Following public pressure, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif later announced a reduction of Rs80 per litre in the petroleum levy on petrol to provide some relief.

Other provinces have also introduced relief programs. The Sindh government recently announced a monthly subsidy of Rs2,000 for registered motorcyclists.

Sindh authorities also approved monthly support ranging from Rs70,000 to Rs100,000 for public transport and goods transport operators.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced that public transport services in cities across Punjab would be made free for passengers.

Officials say these measures are aimed at protecting citizens from the growing financial pressure caused by rising fuel prices.
