Government says Imran Khan can choose any eye specialist as debate grows over medical care in jail.

Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah has said that former prime minister Imran Khan will be allowed to undergo an eye examination by any doctor of his choice.

In a statement, the senior leader of Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) said that Khan’s lawyer, Salman Safdar, did not state in his report that medical treatment was denied after complaints. He added that the government has no objection if Khan wishes to consult a specific eye specialist.

However, the issue sparked debate in the Senate. Leader of the Opposition Raja Nasir Abbas alleged that jail authorities failed to respond promptly to Khan’s complaints about eye pain. He termed the delay “criminal negligence” and demanded accountability.

Imran Khan, founder chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), is currently incarcerated at Adiala Jail. According to a report on facilities available to him in prison, Khan has claimed that vision in his right eye has deteriorated to just 15 percent.

The government’s assurance comes amid growing political tension over Khan’s health and prison conditions. Officials maintain that all legal and medical rights are being provided in accordance with the law, while opposition leaders continue to raise concerns.
