(Web Desk): Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and a prominent advocate of the Kashmir cause, has passed away after a prolonged illness, triggering nationwide grief.

AJK President Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry passed away after a long illness, spreading deep sorrow across Azad Kashmir and the rest of the country.

He was suffering from cancer and was under treatment at a private hospital in Islamabad, where he passed away. As the news broke, waves of grief swept through political, social, and public circles nationwide.

He was regarded as a dignified and influential figure in Azad Kashmir’s politics. Alongside serving as President of the State, he also played a key role as an international adviser for the Kashmir freedom movement.

Throughout his life, he strongly raised the Kashmir issue on global platforms. He consistently spoke for the right of self-determination of the Kashmiri people and remained committed to the cause.

According to family sources, his funeral prayers will be offered tomorrow at 3 pm in his ancestral village in Mirpur. Senior political leaders, government officials, Kashmiri representatives, and a large number of citizens are expected to attend.

Following his death, a mourning atmosphere prevails across Azad Kashmir. The AJK government has announced official mourning, and the national flag will remain at half-mast on government buildings.

Leaders from different political parties and social organizations expressed deep grief. They paid tribute to his political, democratic, and Kashmir freedom movement services.

Public circles say his passing is an irreparable loss for Azad Kashmir and the Kashmir struggle, and his absence will be felt for a long time.
