LAHORE (Web Desk): The race for Lahore’s National Assembly seat NA-129 is heating up, as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to nominate former federal minister Hammad Azhar as its candidate for the upcoming by-poll.

This seat became vacant following the death of senior PTI leader Mian Azhar. The Election Commission of Pakistan is expected to announce the official schedule for the by-election soon.

Sources reveal that PTI has a backup plan in case of any legal complications. If Hammad Azhar is unable to contest, a replacement from his own family will be fielded. However, Hammad remains the party’s top choice and first priority.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has also begun internal lobbying. Prominent figures like Mian Nauman, Rana Mashhood, and Mehr Ishtiaq are all eyeing the party ticket. The PML-N leadership is still in consultation to finalize a strong candidate who can secure victory in this critical constituency.

Both parties will officially announce their candidates once the Election Commission releases the by-election schedule.

Political analysts believe the NA-129 by-election will play a key role in shaping the future direction of Lahore’s political landscape, potentially influencing the larger political scene in Punjab.

The NA-129 by-election is more than just a routine political event — it is a symbolic contest for control over one of Lahore’s influential constituencies. PTI’s decision to nominate Hammad Azhar shows its intent to retain dominance, while PML-N’s internal competition reflects how crucial this seat is for their comeback strategy. The outcome of this battle could have ripple effects across Punjab’s political balance.
