Senate adopts PECA amendment bill 2025, Digital Nation Bill
ISLAMABAD (Suno News): Amid uproar from the opposition, the Senate passed the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) Amendment Bill l 2025 and the Digital Nation Bill 2025.

Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar and Federal Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain presented the bails in the upper house of parliament.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) opposed the passage of the bill and staged a protest, while journalists walked out of the Senate session during the passage of the bill.

Leader of the Opposition in the Senate and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shibli Faraz stated, "These terms may pass, but the values we set will be remembered. Every single brick is being taken away from us, and you are the facilitators of this. The Deputy Chairman removed the word  facilitator  from the proceedings. I was supposed to speak on the Digital Nation Bill."

Shibli Faraz further said that the production orders for Ijaz Chaudhry were not implemented, adding that lawmaking is the job of this house.

The PECA law relates to journalists, and they should have been consulted. It is concerning that the Leader of the Opposition is not allowed to speak, and it is being conveyed that the opposition has no role, he added.

He also mentioned that senators could bring improvements to the bill from their perspective. The bill was passed in haste, and our party opposed it. Parliament has lost its credibility because of the passage of the amendments in haste. Criticising the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Senator Faraz said that the silence of the PPP in Parliament is very troubling.
