Rifts within PTI? Imran asks Junaid Akbar to step down as PAC Chairman

PESHAWAR: (Web Desk) Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan has reportedly instructed Member of the National Assembly Junaid Akbar to step down from his position as Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

According to sources, Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan has conveyed his message regarding the PAC chairmanship to the party’s central leadership.

Sources claim that Imran Khan has issued a written directive for Junaid Akbar to relinquish the role.

The message was reportedly delivered to PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar and Secretary General Salman Akram Raja by Aleema Khan.

Imran Khan has also directed that Junaid Akbar focus entirely on his party responsibilities, sources added.

There is speculation that Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub, may be appointed as the new Chairman of the PAC in place of Junaid Akbar.

When contacted, Junaid Akbar stated, “I will step down as PAC Chairman whenever Imran Khan asks me to.”

PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, commenting on the matter, said: “This is an internal party issue, and I do not wish to make any public comment at this time.”
