Punjab to establish new ministry to control prices of commodities

LAHORE (Web Desk): It has been decided to form a new ministry to control the prices of goods in Punjab.

The Price Control of Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, 2025, has been presented in the Punjab Assembly to change the powers of the Price Control Council.

The text of the bill submitted to the Punjab Assembly states that amendments will be made to the Price Control of Essential Commodities Act 2024. The Price Control Council will be chaired by the Minister of Price Control or a public representative nominated by the Chief Minister.

According to the text of the bill, the council will include the heads of Livestock, Agricultural Marketing Regulatory Authority and Punjab Facilitation Markets. It has been proposed to appoint 3 experts and stakeholders in the council.

The amendment bill has been handed over to the relevant committee of the Punjab Assembly. The committee will present a report to the house within two months.

Government sources say that the Punjab Chief Minister will retain this ministry.
