ISLAMABAD: (Yasir Hussain) The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has repeated been offered by the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N), which is heading the ruling coalition, to join the federal and Punjab governments.

The sources in the PPP said that the PML-N had contacted with its leadership directly as well as through mutual friends inviting it to join the government.

They said that the PML-N invited the PPP to become part of the government on Sunday and also on the oath-taking ceremony of Aseefa Bhutto as member of the National Assembly (MNA).

However, the sources said, the PPP had not yet responded to the government over the offer neither the party had held consultations in this regard.

The PPP has been under pressure to join the government, the sources said and added that the party’s parliamentarians from Sindh except a senior party leader were in support of joining the government.

The senior leader has vehemently opposed the offer and communicated the opinion to the leadership.

PPP‘s Punjab leadership has given their suggestion that the party should join the coalition in Punjab instead of the Centre, saying that it would get strength in the province after joining the government.

Nevertheless, senior party leaders have opposed the idea, the sources added.

During a recent meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the former once again offered the latter to become part of the government.

During the meeting, they also discussed the country’s political situation in detail.

When Bilawal arrived in the Prime Minister’s House, Shahbaz welcomed him and hosted a luncheon. Shehbaz emphasised that Bilawal Bhutto should join hands with the government.
