
Durrani had been under treatment at Dr. Ziauddin Hospital for the past three weeks.
He was born on October 5, 1953, in Garhi Yasin, Shikarpur, Agha Siraj Durrani came from a respected political family. He completed his early education at St. Patrick’s High School in Karachi and later earned a Bachelor of Commerce and LLB degree from Sindh Muslim Law College.
He entered politics in the 1980s, contesting his first election in 1985, and formally joined the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in 1988, winning his first provincial assembly seat that same year.
Durrani served as Speaker of the Sindh Assembly from 2013 to 2024, making him one of the longest-serving speakers in Sindh’s history. He also served as acting Governor of Sindh multiple times.
Known for his firm leadership and deep understanding of parliamentary traditions, Durrani left a lasting mark on Sindh’s political landscape. His father Agha Saddruddin and uncle Agha Baddruddin also held the position of provincial assembly speaker, continuing a family legacy of political service.

Expressing sorrow, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to Durrani’s political services. The Prime Minister said his “dedication to public service and parliamentary values will always be remembered,” and prayed for strength for the bereaved family.
