KARACHI (Web Desk): Sindh government has unveiled a landmark welfare package for industrial workers, introducing a brand-new Workers’ Welfare Card with multiple facilities.

According to Labour Secretary Rafiq Qureshi, the card comes with accidental health insurance worth Rs700,000. This insurance can be used in over 270 hospitals across the country, making Sindh the first province to offer such large-scale protection for labourers.

The package also includes the distribution of 10,000 e-motorcycles and sewing machines, along with other facilities. A special quota has been reserved for women and minority workers to ensure inclusivity.

For women, sewing machines will be provided to promote economic independence and small-scale entrepreneurship. The aim, according to Qureshi, is to open “a bright new chapter” in the lives of labour families.

Through this card, workers will also gain easy access to financial support for weddings, funerals, and other essential needs without the burden of long queues and bureaucratic delays.

Qureshi strongly declared that exploitation of workers will not be tolerated. He warned that industries refusing to register their workers will face strict action. At the same time, he urged workers to remain aware of their rights and to ensure their participation in this welfare program.

This welfare package signals a major shift in labour rights in Pakistan. For the first time, workers are promised protection, mobility, and financial relief in such an organized way. If implemented honestly, this can reduce decades of exploitation. However, the challenge will be ensuring that industries comply and workers are truly registered. If other provinces adopt this model, it could reshape the future of Pakistan’s labour force.
