LAHORE (Web Desk): The Punjab government has officially increased labour wages in the provincial capital, Lahore. Deputy Commissioner Syed Musa Raza issued a notification announcing the revised rates for skilled and unskilled workers.

According to the notification, the daily wage for unskilled labourers has been fixed at Rs1,538, while their monthly salary has been set at Rs40,000. For semi-skilled workers, the new daily wage will be Rs1,558, making their monthly income Rs43,108. Skilled labourers will now receive Rs1,975 per day, equal to Rs45,945 per month.

The Deputy Commissioner stated that the orders were issued under directions from the Punjab Finance Department. All government and private institutions have been instructed to ensure strict implementation of the new wage structure.

Earlier, in September, Punjab’s Minister for Labour and Human Resource Faisal Ayub Khokhar had confirmed that the minimum monthly wage across the province was raised to Rs40,000. Labourers working 26 days a month are entitled to receive no less than this amount.

The increase was part of Punjab’s latest budget proposal, which also included a 10 percent raise in salaries for provincial employees from Grade 1 to 22, along with a 5 percent hike in pensions.

The revised wage policy comes as a major relief for workers struggling with inflation and rising living costs. Experts believe this increase will improve the financial condition of labourers, though employers may face short-term challenges in adjusting wage budgets. The government’s focus on ensuring compliance could help stabilize labour rights and promote fair pay practices across Punjab.
