How to build a home with an interest-free loan?

PESHAWAR: (Web Desk) The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has launched its flagship housing project “Ehsaas Apna Ghar Scheme” to help low-income and lower-middle-class families build, renovate, or improve their own homes - all through interest-free and Shariah-compliant loans.

According to Special Assistant for Housing, Dr Amjad Ali, each eligible person will receive an interest-free loan of Rs. 1.5 million.

Loans are for individuals with a monthly income below Rs. 100,000. The repayment period is 7 years, with an easy monthly installment of Rs. 18,000.

Who Can Apply?

Those who own a 5-marla or smaller plot/home, aged between 18 and 55 years, and residents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are eligible to get a loan. They must have a valid CNIC, active bank account, and proof of land ownership or housing ballot certificate and their monthly income must be under Rs150,000.

In the first phase, 5,309 homes will be built, costing around Rs4 billion. Over the next 7 years, the scheme will expand to 11,196 homes, with a total estimated cost of Rs. 8.95 billion.

The Bank of Khyber has been appointed as the official service provider for this scheme, and formal approvals have been given by both the cabinet and the planning department.
