With this initiative, people can now avoid long queues and hours of waiting by submitting passport renewal applications from home.
In an instructional video released by the Passport Department on social media, the department outlined a step-by-step guide for applicants.
According to the video, individuals who wish to renew their passports must visit the official website www.onlinemrp.dgip.gov.pk. If a user already has an account, they can log in directly; new users must click on the registration button.
The registration form requires users to provide a valid mobile number, email address, basic details, and other mandatory information.

After filling out the form, enter the security code and click Next. A verification link will then be emailed to the user, which must be opened to complete the verification process. Once the account is registered, users can log in using their email and password.
The video further explains that upon logging in, the option to submit a new application will appear. Applicants can choose from five different categories based on their needs. Citizens may only apply for passport renewal online if less than one year remains before their passport expires.
It should be noted that major changes to the passport, such as name or profession updates, cannot be made through the online portal.
For convenience, the department has also provided a drop-down list allowing applicants to select their nearest passport office, in case an office visit becomes necessary.
The video also includes important information about the required quality of uploaded photos. Applicants must upload their photo and documents under 1 MB in size, and only PNG, JPG, or JPEG formats will be accepted.
