LAHORE (Web Desk): The government has made a key decision regarding the opening of motorways following the end of the religio-political party’s protest.

While traffic has resumed on several routes, authorities have decided to keep certain sections closed for now due to ongoing security concerns.

According to Motorway Police sources, traffic is now flowing on Motorway M2, M3, and the Lahore–Sialkot Motorway. However, some connecting routes remain sealed as precautionary measures to ensure public safety.

Earlier, Motorway M2 had been shut down for public traffic from Babu Sabu Interchange, while the entry route from Thokar Niaz Baig was also blocked. The closures had caused major inconvenience to travelers heading from Lahore to other cities, with long traffic jams and delays on alternate routes.

The protests had not only led to the closure of the motorways but also brought severe disruption to major city roads including Ring Road and GT Road. In Lahore, several key routes remained blocked, turning short commutes into hours-long journeys and causing distress for citizens.

According to the latest update from the Punjab Safe Cities Authority, only specific routes — including both sides of Samanabad towards Scheme Mor, Thokar Niaz Baig to Babu Sabu, and Shimla Pahari Chowk — remain closed for traffic, while most other roads have now reopened.

The government’s cautious decision to keep some motorway sections closed reflects its focus on public safety after days of unrest. While the partial reopening has eased traffic pressure, commuters still face challenges on blocked routes. Officials are expected to review the situation before allowing full motorway access.
