LAHORE (Web Desk): Thirteen crucial by-elections across Punjab, including seats in the provincial capital, are set to take place today, a major test for the political climate.

The by-elections, scheduled for November 23, include seats for both the National Assembly (NA) and the Provincial Assembly (PP). According to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), voting will be held for 6 NA seats and 7 PP seats across Punjab. The intense election campaign for all these constituencies officially concluded at midnight on November 21, with the ECP issuing strict guidelines for candidates to adhere to the code of conduct.

One of the most keenly watched contests is the National Assembly seat NA-129 in Lahore, which fell vacant following the death of PTI leader Mian Azhar. ECP officials confirmed that this constituency has a substantial 558,364 registered voters. The polling logistics for this key battle involve 334 polling stations, which include separate facilities designated for men and women, along with 70 joint polling stations. The contest pits PML-N’s Hafiz Mian Nauman against the PTI-backed independent candidate, Chaudhry Arslan Ahmad.

The National Assembly constituencies going to the polls are NA-96 and NA-104 (Faisalabad), NA-129 (Lahore), NA-143 (Sahiwal), and NA-185 (Dera Ghazi Khan). The Provincial Assembly seats include PP-73 (Sargodha), PP-87 (Mianwali), PP-98, PP-115, and PP-116 (all in Faisalabad), PP-203 (Sahiwal), and PP-269 (Muzaffargarh).

A provincial ECP spokesperson reiterated that all election campaigning ceased exactly at 12 AM (midnight) to ensure a peaceful polling day. They urged political parties and candidates to fully comply with the law, confirming that voting will proceed as planned on November 23, 2025.

Holding 13 simultaneous by-elections offers a powerful, real-time snapshot of the public mood and is widely viewed by observers as a crucial litmus test for the popularity and political direction of the major parties in Punjab ahead of any future general elections.
