(Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced that a fleet of 100 electric buses will depart from China for Pakistan tonight.

In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Maryam Nawaz shared pictures of the buses being loaded at China’s Yantai Port. She confirmed that these buses are destined for Punjab districts where no formal public transport system currently exists, including Mianwali, Okara, Nankana Sahib, Muzaffargarh, Vehari, Pakpattan, and Dera Ghazi Khan.

According to Maryam Nawaz, the fare for this service will be just Rs20. Passengers will travel in modern, eco-friendly, air-conditioned buses equipped with Wi-Fi and a fully automated ticketing system.

The buses will also be accessible for people with disabilities, aiming to provide Punjab residents with a safe, comfortable, and reliable travel experience.

Earlier this year, 27 electric buses were successfully tested in Lahore. At their launch, Maryam Nawaz had promised to expand the service to other cities.

The Punjab government has also introduced an electric tram service in Lahore, currently in trial mode. The finalized route runs from Thokar to Harbanspura along a dedicated track on the far-left side of Canal Road to ensure smooth traffic flow.

This move could transform public transport access in underserved Punjab districts, offering an affordable and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional travel. If successful, it may push other provinces to adopt similar initiatives, potentially reshaping urban and intercity mobility in Pakistan.
