Punjab’s eco-friendly public transport initiative has reached a significant milestone with plans to launch electric bus services in 10 additional cities across the province. The government has already deployed a fleet of 200 electric buses to these cities in preparation for the launch.

According to a spokesperson, Chief Minister Punjab will officially inaugurate the new electric bus service on November 19. The expanded routes will cover Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujar Khan, Toba Tek Singh, and Jhang, as well as Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan, Rajanpur, and Bahawalpur, bringing modern, sustainable public transport closer to residents.

The Transport Minister highlighted that the Punjab government has successfully made electric buses operational in Lahore and 10 other cities, where nearly 120,000 passengers use the service daily. This expansion reflects the province’s commitment to providing safe, reliable, and environmentally friendly public transportation options.

The initiative aims to reduce carbon emissions, protect the environment, and improve urban mobility by offering a clean and efficient alternative to traditional fuel-based transport. The government also plans to extend these services to additional cities in subsequent phases, further strengthening the province’s public transport network and promoting sustainable urban development.
