The provincial government asked the owners to replace the old number plates of vehicles with the newly introduced Ajrak-themed plates, which feature advanced security features.
The vehicles that do not have the new number plates after April 3 will face strict penalties, including fines and even vehicle seizure.
The Excise and Taxation Department has explained that the move aims to boost road security and reduce vehicle-related crimes by introducing modern, tamper-proof number plates.
“Failure to install the new Ajrak number plates by the deadline will result in legal action. Vehicles with old plates will be impounded, and owners will face fines,” an official from the Excise Department remarked.
This directive applies to all cities within Sindh, including Karachi, Hyderabad, and Sukkur.
As the deadline nears, there has been a rush at Motor Vehicle Registration Centers, with many vehicle owners rushing to comply with the new regulations.
According to new directives, the government set White background for private vehicle plates, Yellow background for commercial vehicle plates, and special design with Ajrak theme for motorcycle and rickshaw plates.
The fee for private and commercial vehicles is Rs2,450 and the government set Rs1,850 for motorcycles and rickshaws.
