Sialkot Airport to resume flights after flood-induced suspension
(Web Desk): Sialkot International Airport will resume flight operations today at 6:00 PM, following a temporary suspension triggered by flooding, airport officials confirmed.

The suspension Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has been canceled, and all operations are being restored following comprehensive safety checks. Airport spokesperson Muhammad Umair Khan assured that key infrastructure—including the runway, taxiway, apron, terminal building, and main compound—remains safe and unaffected by the flooding. All airport equipment is also secure.

The airport extended thanks to the Pakistan Army and district administration for their timely assistance in managing the disruption. Authorities have stated that the situation is being closely monitored to maintain operational integrity.

Starting August 28, flight services were suspended, which caused significant delays as affected flights were canceled or rerouted to Lahore Airport, primarily impacting Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) services. As operations will resume in phases, travelers are advised to check flight status before heading to the airport.

The airport shutdown followed record-breaking monsoon rainfall. Over 360 mm of rain within 24 hours was received by Sialkot, overwhelming drainage systems and inundating areas adjacent to the airport.

No damage has occurred to the airport’s internal facilities, as per authorities, and critical dewatering operations were also conducted. While severe disruption has been suffered by surrounding areas, the airport itself remained structurally intact throughout.

Sialkot Airport is a vital hub for regional travel and exports. The restoration of flight operations highlights the resilience of critical transport infrastructure in the face of climate extremes. Passengers are advised to stay informed as normal service continues to return.
