(Web desk): Monsoon flooding has brought all flight operations at Sialkot International Airport to a halt for the fourth day.

For the fourth straight day, Sialkot International Airport remains closed as floodwaters continue to cover the airport’s runways and buildings. All incoming and outgoing flights have been cancelled, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded and causing major disruption.

The airport, one of Pakistan’s busiest for international travel, usually handles 10 to 11 international flights every day. But since heavy rains hit the region earlier this week, floodwater has inundated the facility, forcing a complete shutdown of operations.

The situation began after powerful monsoon rains swept across Punjab, causing widespread urban flooding. In Sialkot, the rainwater overflowed into the airport premises, flooding runways, taxiways, and passenger areas. As a result, it became impossible for aircraft to land or take off safely.

Airport staff have been working around the clock for four days to remove the water using their own resources. However, without outside support, progress was slow. Speaking to the media, airport spokesperson Muhammad Umair Khan said the district administration has now stepped in to assist with drainage efforts.

“We are doing everything we can to restart operations,” Khan said. “But if the water doesn t clear soon, flight suspensions may continue for even longer.”
