LAHORE: (Web Desk) In a major transportation shake-up, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari announced that a bullet train will soon connect Lahore and Rawalpindi, slashing the travel time to just two hours and twenty minutes.

Speaking at a press conference, Bukhari shared that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has greenlit two ambitious projects - the bullet train service and the launch of the province’s own airline, “Air Punjab.”

To kick start the airline, four Airbus planes will be leased immediately, with domestic flights beginning soon. After one year of local operations, Air Punjab will expand into international routes, with the Chief Minister emphasising that the airline should quickly become a model of excellence in the country.

A detailed briefing on the bullet train project highlighted plans to partner with Pakistan Railways and possibly involve public-private partnerships.

Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb has been tasked with spearheading collaboration efforts for the project.

Beyond the Lahore–Rawalpindi line, the Chief Minister has also sought feasibility studies for high-speed rail on six additional routes across Punjab, including:

Lahore to Shahdara and Narowal,

Lala Musa to Sargodha via Mandi Bahauddin

Lahore via Raiwind, Kasur, and Pakpattan to Lodhran,

Sheikhupura to Jaranwala and onward to Shorkot

Shorkot to Jhang and Sargodha

Faisalabad to Chak Jhumra and Shahinabad
