LAHORE: (Web Desk) The Punjab government has declared a public holiday in Lahore on April 12 in celebration of the annual Mela Chiraghan.
This festival honors the Urs of Hazrat Shah Hussain, a revered 16th-century Sufi saint.
Mela Chiraghan, also known as the Festival of Lights, is one of Lahore’s most significant cultural and spiritual celebrations, drawing both devotees and visitors.
A notification issued by the Services and General Administration Department (Welfare Wing) confirmed the holiday, which will apply across the entire Lahore district.
“The public holiday is being observed in connection with the annual Urs of Hazrat Shah Hussain (Mela Chiraghan) and will be applicable to all sub-offices within Lahore district,” the notification stated.
However, the notification also clarified that the holiday would not extend to the Punjab Civil Secretariat or regional offices.
